We are pleased to offer you comedies and dramas from Quebec. Ten quality French-Canadian productions: Les oiseaux ivres (winner of ten Iris awards), Nouveau-Québec (starring Christine Beaulieu), Arsenault & Fils (starring Guillaume Cyr and Karine Vanasse), Confessions (directed and starring Luc Picard), Tu te souviendras de moi (with Rémy Girard and Karelle Tremblay), Norbourg (with Vincent-Guillaume Otis), Pas d'chicane dans ma cabane (family film), Arlette (with Mariepier Morin and David La Haye), Au revoir le bonheur (with Antoine Bertrand and Julie Le Breton). And we will celebrate Halloween on October 30 at 11:00 pm with the horror comedy Brain Freeze starring Roy Dupuis.
For the first weekend of the festival, we have two special guests. Ivan Grbovic, director of the film Drunken Birds and Sarah Fortin, director of the film Nouveau-Québec. Ivan and Sarah will be with us virtually after the viewing of their respective films.
For the second weekend, we have four special in-person guests for the first time since the pandemic. Antoine Frenette, in charge of the Québec-Cinema tour, and Karine Fortin, coordinator of the Quebec-Cinema tour. Antoine and Karine are very important collaborators of our film festival. Guy Thauvette, actor in Norbourg and several other films that have played at Cinémental in the present years, will be with us. Guy will be happy to meet you and share his experience as an actor in Norbourg and his long career. Julien Knafo, director of the movie Brain Freeze, will also be with us. He will share with us his experience of having created a film about zombies.
PRODUCTIONS FROM FRANCE, BELGIUM, MALI
We also have a variety of thirteen exciting films from France, Belgium and Mali: thrillers like Black Box and Goliath, romantic comedies like On est fait pour s'entendre and Tendre et saignant, gripping films like Ouistreham and Twist à Bamako, others that are extremely touching like Le temps des secrets, Presque and La brigade, a striking reenactment Notre-Dame brûle and a remarkable period film winner of seven Césars, Illusions perdues starring Gérard Depardieu, Xavier Dolan, Cécile de France and Benjamin Voisin. There is something for everyone.
There are two free screenings. Friday, October 28 at 6:00 p.m., a special presentation of Refuge(s), a production of La Liberté. On October 30 at 1:00 p.m., come and participate in the short film competition. See fourteen productions of less than fifteen minutes, some of which were made by local people.
