A LOOK BACK AT 2023...

 

Cinémental invites you to celebrate the seventh art from October 20 to 22 and October 27 to 29, 2023 at the Pauline-Boutal Hall of the Centre culturel franco-manitobain (CCFM), 340 Provencher Blvd. for its 32nd edition.

 

Discover sensational films, almost all with English subtitles, that will give you a tremendous range of emotions. Celebrate entertainment!

FRENCH-CANADIAN FILMS

We are pleased to offer you comedies and dramas from Quebec and New Brunswick. More than 10 quality French-Canadian productions will be featured, including:  North of Albany, Billie Blue, Frontiers, La cordonnière (Victoire), The Dishwasher, One Summer, My Mother’s Men, Notre Dame de Moncton, Rosie.

We will be presenting two Premieres. There will be Big Brother, the documentary by Alice Teufack on African immigration in Manitoba and the short film Four Mile Creek, by Manitoban Ryan McKenna, based on the history of the Cormier family. ​

PRODUCTIONS FROM FRANCE, BELGIUM…

We also have some 10 exciting films from the Francophonie outside of Canada. A must- see: Sugar and Stars, Alibi.com2, Close, Divertimento, The Innocent, Other People’s Children, The Three Musketeers, The Crime is Mine, Paris Memories, Ride Above, A Love Story. There is something for everyone.

FREE SCREENING

Two free screenings are featured in the program. Attend the viewing of the film produced by the Franco-Manitoban Francine Hébert, Ma course folle vers un maillot 2 pièces on October 27 at 6:00 p.m. Come and participate in the short film competition on Sunday October 29 at 1 p.m. See fourteen French-Canadian productions of less than fifteen minutes, some of which were made by local youth.

A SPECIAL FOR SENIORS

Persons 50 years of age and over can take advantage of the discount offered for two films: Le temps d’un été, Notre Dame de Moncton. The price will be $8 instead of $10. Identification card to be presented upon request.

12 years old and under: $5 (only for the family film, Ride Above)

NICOLAS FONTAINE

Actor in the film La cordonnière (Victorine)

As a young teenager, after taking workshops in advertising, acting, voice and diction, .... with Patrick Huneault and Danielle Fichaud, Nicolas opted to concentrate on acting and acting in front of the camera, including the I.O. Acting Studio.

Afterwards, he took part in several short films and Web series. He went on to play roles in the TV series 30 vies, Marche à l'ombre, Fugueuse, District 31, Big Top Academy, Mon fils, Within These Walls, Max et Livia I-II-III, Six degrés, Nous and Détective Surprenant.

His film credits include Charlotte a du fun, Aquaslash, and Jeune Juliette directed by Anne Émond. In 2021, he plays Thomas Dufresne in François Bouvier's production Victorine. Nicolas Fontaine is also a keen sportsman with many strings to his bow.

MARYSE LATENDRESSE

Screenwriter for the film Les hommes de ma mère (My Mother’s Men).


Maryse holds a degree in Feature Film Writing (L'inis), a Master's degree in Literature (UQÀM - Award for best creative thesis) and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology (Université de Montréal). She has published four novels and co-directed two collectives of renowned authors. She has written a play and produced a video-poetry that received a special mention. She was also one of six duos of emerging creators at the first edition of La Forge Québec cinéma.


She has written the screenplays for several short films, including Le Truck. Her first feature film Pas d'chicane dans ma cabane (How to Get Your Parents to Divorce), cowritten with Sandrine Brodeur-Desrosiers, was released in the summer of 2022 and won several awards, including Best Screenplay at the Canadian Film Fest. It was presented as part of Cinémental's school program.


Her second screenplay, Les hommes de ma mère (My Mother’s Men), directed by Anik Jean, has just been released. It has been a box-office success. She is currently developing scripts for four feature films and three shorts.

CHARLES-AUBEY HOUDE

Actor in the film The Dishwasher.

Charles-Aubey Houde is a young actor born in Lac-Saint-Jean, graduating from the National Theatre School of Canada in 2017. During his training, he developed an interest in vocal technique, singing and composition, in addition to learning to play various musical instruments: guitar, harmonica, piano, ukulele, percussion. He is a curious, interested, and hard-working artist.

Since 2013, he has been an active founding member of La Criée, a collective born around the desire to enable the democratization of arts and letters in the public square.

On TV, he has appeared in the series Léo, Hôtel, Madame Lebrun, Doute raisonnable, La faille 2 and more recently in Indéfendable, and Aller Simple on Noovo.

In 2021, he played Alex in the feature film Underground directed by Sophie Dupuis. In 2023, he plays Bébert in the feature film The Dishwasher, directed by Francis Leclerc.

DENISE BOUCHARD

Film director of Notre Dame de Moncton (Our Lady of Moncton).

 

Actress-writer-director Denise Bouchard has been a fixture on the Acadian cultural scene since the 1980s. Since graduating from the Université de Moncton with a degree in Dramatic Arts, Denise has never stopped pursuing her professional development. This talented and versatile artist has been offered numerous roles in theatre, film and television.

In 2016, she scripted, co-directed and starred in her first short fiction film, Bascule. A Telefilm Canada Talent en vue bursary recipient in 2018, she presented her first feature-length fiction film, Pour mieux t'aimer (To Better Love You), as writer, scriptwriter and co-director in Acadia. This fiction feature won numerous awards.

In 2022, she co-wrote and directed the documentary Le mur du silence for Radio-Canada, and directed the fiction feature Notre Dame de Moncton (Our Lady of Moncton) by author Mélanie Léger. Denise is currently scripting a feature-length fiction film (working title: Pense à moi) and developing a mini-series of six one-hour episodes.
